Who do I teach?
I teach all ages and all skill levels, from very beginner, never having picked up an instrument before, to someone who is picking up an instrument later in life, to those who are experience but want fresh eyes on their technique.
I also have extensive experience teaching kids from elementary to high school.
Where do I teach?
I teach in-home lessons in New York City and online. So that means I can come to you. For folks who are an hour or more away from Crown Heights, Brooklyn, there is a small transportation fee.
What is my approach to teaching?
I prioritize my students' wants and needs regarding their repertoire. I want you to play the music that excites you and I want to help you build the technique to play it! My teaching is all about encouraging self-empowerment for my students. I want you to feel that you have the ability to feel free and exploratory on the violin.
I specialize in various folk fiddle techniques, from American to European folk styles. I also specialized teaching improvisation and jazz for string players. I come from a classical and Suzuki background so that is always a foundation for my teaching.
Different from most teachers, I like to incorporate the creative use of improvisation at an early stage of learning, at all levels, and in all genres, to create more creative pathways and independence on the instrument for my students.
My teaching always includes learning music theory and rhythmic principles. I can teach by ear or through reading music.
